Nicole was the receipient of the 2008/2009 Crawford Family Fellowship for Ethical Inquiry.Beate Brunow, PhD Candidate in German Literature with a Minor in Women's Studies
Beate was awarded first place in the Arts and Humanities Category at the 2009 Graduate Exhibition. The title of Beate's poster is: Dramatic Inquires: Encountering Performances of Female Creativity, which is a summary of her proposed dissertation project which focuses on women writers' artist-dramas in the nineteenth century.
Jennifer Hayes-Conroy, PhD Candidate in Geography and Women's Studies
Jennifer was the receipient of one of three Penn State Alumni Association's Dissertation Awards. The Penn State Alumni Association Dissertation Award is awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement in scholarship and professional accomplishments. These awards, considered to be among the most prestigious available to Penn State graduate students, provide funding to full-time doctoral students who have passed their comprehensive exams and have received approval of their dissertation topics

Brenna and Stephanie have had a paper accepted for the National Women's Studies Association conference, to be held in Atlanta in November. Their paper is entitled "Water Under the Bridge?: The Black Body Reinterpreted Through Feminism and Contemporary Art."
Positions Accepted
Nicole Sparling, PhD Candidate in Comparative Literature with a minor in Women's Studies
Nicole has accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of World Literature in the Department of English at Central Michigan University. Nicole will be starting her new position in the Fall 2009 semester.
Jessica Hayes-Conroy, PhD Candidate in Geography and Women's Studies
Jessica has accepted a post-doctoral fellowship in Women's Studies and the Environmental Studies Departments at Wheaton College for 2009-2010
Cole Reilly, PhD Candidate in Curriculum & Instruction and Women's Studies
Cole has accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Elementary Education at Towson University and has been awarded the New Faculty Incentive Award/Grant. Cole will be working with the award winning Professional Development School (PDS) program within the College of Education. Cole will be starting his new position in the Fall 2009 semester.
